Willard Scott a Voice for the 100-Plus

Willard Scott knows a few things about people reaching the age of 100 and beyond.

He's not a centenarian himself, but during his career on NBC's Today Show, he interviewed scores of women and men about their longevity during his well-known birthday segment.

"The one thing that sort of sums it up that I've found is that you make your nervous system your ally," he said. "And most of these people are born with it. They don't fret. They don't stew. They are very much adapted to what their life is."

Scott was the keynote speaker at the Lifespan's Celebration of Aging at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center Thursday. The agency's annual fundraiser recognizes local centenarians and toasts their long lives. This year's list of honorees included 24 names.
